Mark R. Hoffman
Mr. Hoffman is a partner in The Tilson Group, and began his career in 1988 at Arthur Andersen (now Accenture) developing logistics and distribution information systems. After earning his MBA from The Harvard Business School in 1993, he joined The Boston Consulting Group’s Chicago office and subsequently helped launch BCG’s Atlanta office in 1995. Mr. Hoffman was elected Vice President and Director in 2000.
Over the course of 13 years at BCG, Mr. Hoffman worked with clients in the consumer goods and retail, industrial goods, forest products, transportation, power generation, health care, insurance, financial institutions, travel and tourism, and education industries. His functional expertise includes business strategy, growth, competitive analysis, cost reduction, sales and marketing, service, organization design, portfolio strategy/post-merger integration and global competition. He led the Industrial Goods and Operations Practice Areas for the Southeastern United States and the Atlanta office’s recruiting and career development processes.
Since 2007, Mr. Hoffman has led several early stage companies in the technology, financial institutions and chemicals industries, assisting them with strategic advisory and venture capital services.
Mr. Hoffman is an honors graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Economics and holds an MBA from The Harvard Business School.
Martin R. Tilson
Mr. Tilson is a respected attorney, business counselor and innovative leader, with thirty plus years of experience focused on law and business. He draws upon his business advisory, legal, government relations, and business development experience to offer advisory services through The Tilson Group.
Mr. Tilson was Managing Partner and Corporate Partner, Atlanta (2007-2009) of Burr & Forman, a regional full-service law firm with over 200 attorneys in six offices throughout the Southeast. From 1995-2007, Mr. Tilson was a Corporate Partner and Chair of the multi-office Technology Practice at Kilpatrick Stockton, a 500 attorney international law firm headquartered in Atlanta. At KS, he was a Corporate Team Leader and member of the Firm Strategic Plan Committee, the Compensation Committee, and was Marketing Partner (1995-2000). From 1991-1995, Mr. Tilson was Counsel and Chair of Practice Development at Long, Aldridge and Norman where he developed and grew the firm’s corporate technology practice. Mr. Tilson previously served as in-house counsel to Sonat Corp., a $3B international energy company.
Selected business community leadership includes: Metro Atlanta Chamber Board of Directors (1997-2000, 2008, 2009); Technology Association of Georgia: Executive Board (2000-present); Emory Goizueta Business School Board of Advisors (2000-present); Georgia Tech College of Computing Board of Advisors (2000-2002); Emory Winship Cancer Center Board of Advisors (2006-present).
A graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, Mr. Tilson obtained his JD and was Chairman of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board. He received his BA from Sewanee: The University of the South.
